Qurbani is an act of sacrifice performed during Eid al-Adha as a way to express gratitude to Allah (swt) and provide for those in need. The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) was once asked by his Companions about the meaning of qurbani, to which he replied that it is a tradition established by their father Ibrahim (A.S). In the Qur’an, Allah (swt) states that it is not the physical aspects of the sacrifice that reach Him, but rather the sincerity and righteousness of the individual offering it. Qurbani has been practiced since the time of Ibrahim (as) and also serves as a commemoration of his willingness to sacrifice his son, who was ultimately replaced by an animal.
